Sleep is vital to your overall and wellbeing and there are many reasons why your sleep may not be optimal. For some people, their sleep difficulty is linked to health issues such as anxiety or pain, which impairs their ability to rest. And Joseph Maroon, M.D., a clinical professor and neurosurgeon at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center who has researched the effect of cannabis on the brain, says that CBD has properties that could help some people sleep better. Most notably, he says, it appears to ease anxiety and pain, both of which can make it harder to fall asleep or stay asleep. But “many questions still remain as to timing, the amount to take, and route of dosing CBD for sleep,” Maroon says. All of that could affect who CBD helps for sleep, and who it doesn’t.

And how it affects people does seem to be hit or miss. Still, he notes that if you occasionally have difficulty sleeping, CBD is considered a safe, non-habit-forming, natural alternative.



If you are a professional athlete or highly active person, you could be more susceptible to injury. Rather than relying on opioids and prescription drugs after an injury, some professional athletes are turning to non-addictive and more natural alternatives instead.   But, it is not just athletes using CBD.   Research shows that of the 62% of people who use CBD for a medical condition, the majority are treating chronic pain, arthritis, and joint pain, as well as anxiety.  It has been found that CBD has minimal side effects and a low-risk, zero-addiction profile.  A study in the European Journal of Pain studied CBD use for general chronic pain. Researchers compiled the results of multiple systematic reviews covering dozens of trials and studies. The research concluded that there is substantial evidence that cannabis is an effective treatment for chronic pain in adults. A separate study in the Journal of Experimental Medicine supports these results. This research suggests that using CBD can reduce pain and inflammation. The researchers also found that subjects were not likely to build up a tolerance to the effects of CBD, so they would not need to increase their dose over time. This is great news when it comes to combating the use of pharmaceuticals.  They noted that cannabinoids, such as CBD, could offer helpful new treatments for people with chronic pain.
